Luk
19:41 And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,
Luk 19:42
Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.
Luk 19:43 For the days shall
come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,
Luk 19:44 And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within
thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.
We can
see that Judgement will come to the Jewish people and Jerusalem in particular...this is referenced in Micah 3:1-12. We can see especially in vs. 11
that they thought that the Lord was for them and among them and that they were safe from evil.
They were deceived -Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever
a man soweth, that shall he also reap. Micah 3:1-4 shows that God hid His
face from them because of the evil of their doings. They were doing sinful things and rejected the prophets (God's
voice to them).
Heb 3:12 Take heed, brethren,
lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
Heb
3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness
of sin.
Sin is deceitful...Sin causes us to lose sight spiritually.
Yes, God is ultimately responsible for all of His creation and whether we can see spiritually or not, but man is also accountable.
Man is accountable for his sinful actions and whether or not he listened to the voice of the Lord.
Thus, when Jesus approached Jerusalem He was well aware that His voice would be rejected and
that the city would be judged. When He exclaimed His desire that if they only knew "the
things which belong unto their peace", He was refering to Himself. He is the Prince of Peace.
And He knew that He would be rejected of that generation to suffer and
die for the sin of the world....This was even
hidden from His disciples at
the time as we see in the previous chapter -
Luk 18:31 Then he took unto him the twelve,
and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man
shall be accomplished.
Luk 18:32 For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles,
and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:
Luk 18:33
And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.
Luk 18:34 And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid
from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.
So, at this time Jesus and His true identity
was hidden from
their eyes. They were full of sin and unbelief - even His called disciples. They are accountable for that.
And God, as a responsible parent, will hold them accountable and judge them so that they might repent.
Isiah had this to say - Isa 53:1 Who
hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? As you continue in Isa. 53 you
will see that this prophecy about Jesus' identity wasn't applied to Him by the Jewish people when He was on the earth
and He was "esteemed stricken and smitten of God, and afflicted".
His Identity was hidden, but they are still accountable. They didn't
believe the report and the arm of the Lord wasn't revealed to them because of their tradition. They expected
the Messiah to come in a certain form and fashion, not as a suffering servant. Thus, the fact that They didn't know
God (who is spirit), but judged after the flesh becomes manifest in their rejection of God in Jesus Christ. They are
accountable for that and God Judges them for that. God's judgements are always with a the purpose of bringing
forth righteousness.
Furthermore, God's Truth is hidden and He has the perogative
to reveal it to whom He chooses!
Mat
13:44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when
a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
Eph 3:9
And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid
in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
Col 1:26 Even the mystery which hath been hid
from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
Col 1:27
To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in
you, the hope of glory:
Jesus preached that the Kingdom of God is within you. The "religious"
people of Jesus' day as well as the "religious" people of today are no different. They expect God to operate
in a certain way.
The Jews expected the Messiah to set up a visible, literal government on earth
to save them from Roman rule. The apostate church of today expects to be saved from all troubles and given "prosperity"
(financial riches) in this life to rule over others. (note - there are many other similarities of which I will not go into
right now).
But Jesus is revealed on the inside!
God's kingdom is on the inside. God's Word
is to be applied to the inside. God's purpose is focused on Christ in you. People are deceived to claim otherwise
and it is a different Jesus than the one of the bible. And yes God is responsible for their blindness, but they (we)
are accountable.
To see a clear indictment of
the religious leaders of Jesus' day read Matt. chapter 23...This is still what is in the apostate churches today.
Hopefully this helps a little to
explain God's justice in hiding and revealing.....one more....
Mat 11:25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou
hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
Mat 11:26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
Mat 11:27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and
no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will
reveal him.
